Efficient Provisioning of Real-Time QoS Guarantees in IEEE 802.11e WLANs

چکیده
In this paper we propose the Real-Time HCCA (RTH) scheduler, to support Quality of Service (QoS) in an IEEE 802.11e network using the Hybrid Coordinator Function (HCF) Controlled Channel Access (HCCA) function. RTH provides each admitted flow with real-time QoS guarantees. In addition, we evaluate the performance of RTH, with and without the QAck 802.11e option, in terms of the admission control limit and the amount of channel capacity that is left for contention-based access. In doing so, we also compare RTH with the sample scheduler that was proposed in IEEE 802.11e. Our analysis shows that RTH can admit a higher number of flows than the sample scheduler, when the flows have different QoS requirements. RTH also helps to increase the amount of bandwidth which is left for contention-based access.

Dynamic Resource Reservation and QoS Management in IEEE 802.11e Networks
Quality of service (QoS) guarantees are becoming increasingly relevant for mobile networks, too, as they have to support, e.g., more and more audio and video applications with real-time requirements. Therefore, recent extensions of WLANs, namely IEEE 802.11e, are introducing new mechanisms to enable the provisioning of QoS guarantees, in particular by means of resource reservation. This paper s...
متن کاملProvisioning QoS Support for Multimedia Traffic in IEEE 802.11 WLANs: A Performance Evaluation
The IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN (WLAN) is the most widely used standard nowadays for wireless LAN technology. However, the current standard does not provide QoS support required by the wide range of end applications (e.g., multimedia communications). Thus, a large number of enhancements to the standard are being proposed. This paper summarizes some of the most relevant schemes and presents a surve...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Priority Schemes for IEEE 802.11e Wireless Local Area Networks Using Multiple Flows Distributed Weighted Fair Queuing Algorithm
In this paper, a novel and simple search algorithm called distributed weighted fair queuing (DWFQ) algorithm is proposed for the quality-of-service (QoS) in IEEE 802.11e wireless local area networks (WLANs). We first propose that the IEEE 802.11e enhanced distributed coordination function (EDCF) is an efficient algorithm to support the QoS in WLANs, although it can provide more bandwidth to pac...
متن کاملAn enhancement to the IEEE 802.11e EDCA providing QoS guarantees
One of the challenges that must be overcome to realize the practical benefits of ad hoc networks is quality of service (QoS). However, the IEEE 802.11 standard, which undeniably is the most widespread wireless technology of choice for WLANs and ad hoc networks, does not address this issue. In order to support applications with QoS requirements, the upcoming IEEE 802.11e standard enhances the or...
متن کاملEnhanced quality of service support for triple play services in IEEE 802.11 WLANs
Wi-Fi or wireless local area networks (WLANs) are among the most popular wireless internet access technologies used. The major challenge faced by WLANs is the provision of quality of service (QoS) for real-time applications at high congestion periods. IEEE 802.11e draft presents the only comprehensive QoS infrastructure for WLANs which proposes enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) that pr...
